Notes from the Portland trip, vol 1
August 25th, 2005 by admin
So here I am on the Orange Line en route to Midway. I figured I’d check
wireless coverage in the Loop as we passed, and I have to say that I am
surprised – maybe it’s just reception on my Palm, but the downtown area was
not the hotbed of wifi activity I had expected. Only saw half a dozen
access points (broadcasting their SSIDs, anyway) between Chicago and
Kedzie. And of those, only one was accepting connections – way to go,
‘Office’, whoever you are.
Arriving at Midway now – I’ll see if I can find a hotspot to post here.
UPDATE 9:49a – Waiting at the security checkpoint; no sign of Alex yet.
(Not entirely unexpected, he is driving in after all.) Sadly no sign of
wifi either, except a locked-down net called ‘matcoe700’. (Midway
Airport… Transportation…?)
UPDATE 10:05a – Plane leaves in one hour; still no sign of Alex. Maybe he
and Todd went overboard at Kiss & Ride?
UPDATE 10:24a – Ok, Alex showed almost immediately after that last, so all
is well. Getting a bite (and the traditional pre-flight drink) at
Miller’s. Flight leaves from the gate right over there, so we should be
all set.
